Produced in collaboration with Kirsti Whalen, she put forward the poem, and I did the watercolour illustrations and we are going to collate it into a mini book as a giveaway at her next poetry performance in March.

Whalen’s writing currently focuses on snippets of her turbulent past and the things left behind. Expressing, creatively, the things that shaped her has been challenging but healing, and she shares her story with others as she believes she has a story to tell. Much of Whalen’s work is written for performance, rather than the page.  As a performance poet she enjoys the challenge of making words come alive on a stage, but does hope that they can stand alone without her voice as well, as in this publication Dinosaurs.

This poem was written during Whalen’s internship at the Centre for Poetics and Justice, Melbourne 2012.
